Seasons

The 4 seasons on the Salto in South Tyrol

We are open all the year, so you can enjoy a lot of time together with the family and look forward to all the fun. We would be glad to welcome you!

Spring

In spring we set the basis for a good harvest in autumn. Our animals spent the whole winter in the barn and so they are looking forward to return on green meadows and to smell the clear and fresh air. The pastures shine in soft green and you can enjoy the first warming sunrays. The spring blossom on Salto is a fascinating natural spectacle, when millions of crocus colored the endless meadows in pink and white. Relax on our terrace, close your eyes and enjoy the silence.

Our tip: „the crocus festival“ on the Tschöggelberg in April.

Summer

The summer has reached its peak, when the sun shines nearly endless days and the air smells like fresh hay. Everything blossoms, grows and matures. This is the best time to harvest our herbs and to fill the barn with fresh hay. Countless walks and excursions up to the South Tyrolean Mountain huts starts directly on our doorstep. The children can run barefoot over the meadows and play on our great playground.
"You are never been really at a place, if you don't reached it on your own feet”. (Goethe)

Our tip: the festival „ Wieser Kirchtag“ on the first Sunday of July.

Autumn

The big harvest
Finally we can collect fruits and vegetables and create delicious homemade products like Sauerkraut, jams of plums, pears and raspberries, and elderberry syrup. In autumn we have pleasant warm temperatures and clear air and so even the best hiking season. The larch trees turn from a deep green to a vibrant yellow, and you have a perfect view of the Dolomites and of the Salto high plateau you can enjoy the panoramic landscape.

It's time to celebrate a South Tyrolean culinary tradition of „Törggelen“.
No Törggelen would be complete without roasted chestnuts, a glass of the young wine (so-called „Nuie“ in South Tyrolean dialect) and sweet pastries as a finishing touch. Törggelen is celebrated in October and November. Come and be a part of this tradition.

Winter

Wintertime is even rest time.
In this season calm returns on our Inn, the animals are back in the stable and a lot of snow falls down. Come in, feel the silence and just relax – and wait for Christmas. Christmas time is a strong link with family traditions: we bake cookies and create the advent crown. In this time we also prepare smoked meat and bacon. Many Christmas Markets open its doors for example in the cities Bolzano, Merano, Bressanone or in the Sarentino Valley.
